HALL OF HONOR 2007

Walter Brown Dossett, Sr.

 CHS Class of 1916

Four generations of the Dossett family have operated processing and manufacturing firms in Cameron for well over 100 years providing jobs to local citizens, paying taxes to support schools, city and county, while contributing to local civic causes and charities.  This exemplary role in the local economy is due, in part, to the loyalty of Walter B. Dossett, Sr., to his hometown Cameron, a resoluteness carried on by his son Walter B. Dossett, Jr., long after the family moved to Waco. Walking in a father’s footsteps has been a hallmark of the Dossett men.  Dossett manufacturing plants combined are the largest privately held facilities in Cameron. Since the death of Walter B. Dossett, Jr., in 2003, family business interests have been under the direction of Reeder Dossett, his eldest son.  Mr. Dossett, Sr., was a churchman, a banker, owner of other businesses, and president of the National Compress and Cotton Warehouse Association 1941-42.   His father, Andrew J. Dossett, family founder in Texas, built All Saints Episcopal Church in Cameron so that his family would have a place to worship. The building dedicated in 1907 continues to serve its congregation after 100 years.  W. B. Dossett, Sr., and his wife, Alethea Sleeper, were parents of four children. He died May 31, 1972.
