Monroe Herman Fuchs

YHS Class of 1952

YHS honor graduate, Monroe earned Texas A&M University’s BS in Poultry Husbandry and MS in Poultry Husbandry with emphasis poultry on breeding, being Distinguished Student for 8 semesters, Distinguished Military Student and Graduate, elected to Ross Volunteers, Phi Eta Sigma, Alpha Zeta, and Phi Kappa Phi honor societies. After 3 years in the US Air Force, cited as an Exceptionally Well Qualified KC97 Instructor Navigator, he returned to Cameron in 1960 as geneticist for Ideal Poultry Breeding Farms, Inc., reaching a lifetime goal to join his Fuchs family business that he would buy in 1973. Under his guidance the firm grew to top distributor of non-commercial poultry in the U.S. In 1992 Ideal Poultry was named Poultry Producer of the Year-Texas Best. In 1994 professional peers gave him Texas’ highest poultry acclaim: Golden Feather Award. In Cameron Monroe conceived and founded the Cameron Volunteer Ambulance Service in 1976, is noted as District 2S3 Lion of the Year, for ‘Years of Outstanding Leadership, Excellent Fund Raising Ability and Unselfish Commitment to His Community’ by the Chamber of Commerce, and ‘Lions International Melvin Jones Fellow’ in 1991. Life-long Lutheran—charter member of Abiding Savior Lutheran Church—he followed a call to ministry in jails and prisons in both local and state system with the Kairos Prison Ministry.
