HALL OF HONOR 2007
Raymond
V. Lesikar,
Ph.D.
YHS Class of
1940
Raymond’s
biography reads like a novel about a heroic professor who always
wins in the end. He rose in his academic specializations of
business management and organizational communication. In sum his
family and working life can be defined by the roles of scholar,
published textbook writer, university department head in two
universities, U.S. Army captain, husband and father. Armed with
his still new Ph.D. from UT-Austin, Raymond in 1954 joined the
faculty of the College of Business Administration at Louisiana
State University in Baton Rouge remaining until 1977. He headed
the LSU Department of Marketing and Management for 17 of those
years, major professor for 23 recipients of the doctoral degree. He wrote six
textbooks, most published by McGraw-Hill/Irwin, that have gone
through a total of 33 editions. The 11th edition of
Basic Business Communication is newly published. Sales
over the years have totaled over 800,000 copies. Considering the
used-book market, the number of students using these textbooks
could exceed two million. From 1979 to
his second retirement in 1989 he was head of the
Marketing-Management Department at University of North Texas. He
acknowledges his debt for his parents’ guidance, and to friends
and family whose support in Cameron made growing up a solid
grounding for life.
