HALL OF HONOR 2001

Franklin D. Moore, Ph.D.

YHS Class of 1957

Franklin began his career in electronics as a broadcast technician at Radio Station KMIL while a junior at Yoe High. After graduating as valedictorian, he earned a bachelor's degree at Texas A&M University, a master's degree at Purdue University, and a doctorate at The University of Iowa, all in electrical engineering, and pursued a diverse career in teaching and research that ultimately led to work on our nation's secret communications in the event of nuclear war. Franklin served on the faculties of the University of Iowa, Purdue University, and George Washington University where he taught electromagnetic theory. In 1976 he left teaching and university research to work for the U.S. government as a senior electronics engineer in the National Military Command System, Defense Communications Agency, National War College, and the National Security Agency, all in the Washington, D.C., area. The mission of NSA is to intercept foreign signals, to crack the enemy's secret codes, and to create unbreakable codes of our own. In 1994 he retired after serving as senior technical advisor to the Director, Special Technical Operations Division, Organization of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the Pentagon, Washington, D.C.
